Bayanouni: Syrian regime responsible for instability in Lebanon

London, Nov 20, 2007 (Levant News) - A Syrian opposition leader accused onTuesday the Syrian regime of being responsible for instability in Lebanon.

Ali Sadreddin Bayanouni, the Muslim Brotherhood leader and a leading figurein the National Salvation Front in Syria (NSF), said the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad is to blame for ongoing instability in Lebanon, the new ALARABnewspaper of Qatar reported Tuesday.

Bayanouni told the Qatari newspaper that the Syrian regime "wants to
prove to the World that without its help, Lebanon will never bestable".

The Syrian regime "efforts to restore control over Lebanon are clear
andundoubted", Baynouni told the newspaper in an interview from Istanbul, where heattended an International conference on Jerusalem. He added: "it is workingto spread chaos in Lebanon" and is "intentionally causing security unrest".

Lebanon is suffering deep political and security crisis as its
presidential election was postponed for a fourth time on Tuesday amid last-ditch effortsfor political rivals to strike a deal by a Friday deadline to replace the current head of state.

Three others sessions to elect a successor to the current pro-Syrian
head ofstate Emile Lahoud have been postponed for lack of agreement between theWestern-backed majority and the Hezbollah-led opposition on who should succeedincumbent president Emile Lahoud.
